The Phuket Colouring Book airs on the radio!

So it's official - My new book is now out and available to buy throughout Phuket! More info and photos of the book to follow shortly on my website but for now here's a recording of my interview held yesterday on LIVE 89.5 Phuket Radio.

Having never been on the radio in my life, it was a little daunting I have to say! Many thanks to DJ Steve Johnston and his team for making me feel right at home, well... as "at home" as you can feel in these situations!

Markets and Birdcages

Hi all,  I've been away for a bit riding elephants up in Chiang Mai! Am back now though and here's my last two illustrations for the Phuket News. The colouring competition is still proving very popular amongst the kids of Phuket. There's been so many entries in fact that the entry deadline has now been extended to every two weeks. I continue to be inspired by life around me and feel a book coming along with all these illos!

The fish stall always amazes me at the market. All the little creatures
displayed side by side. And crisps on a stick one of my favourite snacks!
A popular pastime in rural Thailand is holding bird singing contests.
Many keep these birds as their pets and hang the beautiful
cages outside homes and shops. I couldn't resist putting
in a cheeky cat ;)
And the last win went to 7 year old Grace Hiranyakas
from  Kajonkiet International school. I love the way she added  helmets
to my dogs in the side car to promote a safer Thailand!
 Also just great colouring skills!

The Phuket News

Last Friday saw the start of a new commission i'm working on for the Phuket News; A weekly colouring contest open to the children of Phuket. I was honoured to be asked to be part of such a fun project and entries are now rolling in! I will be announcing the weekly winners on twitter so do follow!

The Phuket Colouring Competition

This week i'm delighted to say I have a new illustration commission out here in Phuket.
With thanks to my lovely neighbour and editor of the Phuket News, I'll be providing an illustration a week for kids to colour in and I'll be judging and featuring the best entries!

I'm really excited about this new opportunity as ever since I got here I've felt totally inspired by this place! First up for the kids to colour in is a dog. There are so many around Phuket and their little characters may just be my new obsession!

A little fellow who caught my eye...

My Studio

Here's a little peak at my desk space and how I work. Its all rather new! I moved to Thailand from Brighton in October which is very exciting! I took with me only a laptop and my trusty Wacom! (that's not true I'm not a complete geek, I did take a few other things ;)  but delighted to say pens and paper you can get anywhere in the world!

I don't keep sketchbooks as I like to draw on loose paper. I use brush and ink, pencils, gel pens, markers or biros depending on my mood! I then scan them in and apply colour using Photoshop. I keep my sketches in files and sometimes on the wall. If I'm developing a character it helps to have him in front of me doing different things. Like a separate world I delve in and out of!

My friend sent me these stickers recently from the UK.
Thanks Karen, I love them! I particularly like the "Alright love" one. Reminds me of home :)

Occasionally I draw my husband little pictures of what's on my mind.
This Christmas, we're off to Ko Yao to stay in a wooden beach hut.
I'm most looking forward to the hammocks!
